JOHNNY
ROMANO

Test & Evaluation Lead,
Edge Compute & Comms.
Building reliable systems where failure isn't an option.

I'm a test & evaluation engineer with a career spanning defense AI, autonomous vehicles, delivery robotics, and RF systems. Currently at Anduril Industries, leading T&E for edge compute and communications infrastructure.

Before Anduril I worked across the robotics stack at Zoox and Serve Robotics, built RF and microwave hardware at Eravant, and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

I'm drawn to problems at the intersection of hardware, software, robotics, and communications — environments where reliability isn't optional and the margin for error is zero.

// Autonomous Vehicles

Zoox

System Test Engineer, System Integration & Validation

Validated the full stack — autonomy, firmware, hardware, ops — on an L4 robotaxi carrying real people. Testing wasn't a phase. It was woven into every sim run, track session, and public road mile.

Built the frameworks that found the bugs nobody else was looking for. Data-driven root cause, cross-functional pressure, zero tolerance for ship-it-and-see.

// Delivery Robotics

Serve Robotics

Senior Quality Assurance Engineer

Took L4 sidewalk robots from prototype to production — EVT through PVT. Owned the validation and safety testing that cleared the path to deployment at scale.

Built automated test infrastructure that scaled with the fleet. Not just finding problems — engineering the systems to find them faster and fix them permanently.

// RF & Microwave Systems

Eravant formerly SAGE Millimeter

Systems Automation Engineer

Built the quality and compliance backbone — ISO9001, AS9100, NIST 800-171 — while simultaneously dragging the engineering infrastructure into the modern era.

Designed automated inspection systems and RF test applications from scratch. Stood up HPC environments for simulation. Left the org faster, cleaner, and better-equipped to build world-class microwave and mmWave products.

// Military Service

U.S. Marine Corps

Engineer Equipment Electrical Technician & Safety Compliance Supervisor

Deployed and sustained the electrical backbone keeping tactical air traffic control and C2 systems alive in operational environments. No tolerance for downtime.

Cut audit and deployment timelines by 90% by rebuilding safety and quality procedures from the ground up. Power generation, electro-mechanical systems, field conditions — if it broke, we fixed it. Then made sure it didn't break again.
